Disaster Relief

Food is an essential human need, particularly after a disaster when demand for physical activity can increase caloric requirements.

While the human body can survive without food for some time (even weeks if hydration is maintained, the average person needs 2000 – 2400 calories per day to maintain caloric balance and more if they are engaged in strenuous activity.

Hot food can be a tremendous morale booster during a natural disaster and can be a lifesaver by providing the means to bring water to a rolling boil which will kill most types of germs. Simi Stove can supply that stove.

Not only can we supply the stove, we can include it in a disaster relief package which includes our stove, two bowls, a litre of fuel (which will provide for 2 to 3 weeks of cooking) water purification tables and dried food sachets. It would enable survivors of the disaster to have access to hot food and beverage no matter where they were.

The contents of the relief package had been designed to be lightweight, compact and safe which means storage and delivery can be achieved easily and safely.

  • The stove is lightweight and folds into a compact unit

  • The stove requires no maintenance

  • The stove can ship with two bowls that fit together to form a protective shell inside which the stove and fuel are stored

  • The fuel is ethanol based and comes in half-litre plastic bottles or sachets

  • One half-litre bottle or sachet of fuel will provide for approximately 3 hours actual cooking time

  • Ethanol produces no harmful emissions allowing the stove to be used in crowded shelters with no harmful effects

  • Simi Cooking Gel is in gel form to ease safety concerns during handling, storage and delivery

  • The fuel has a shelf life of 2 to 3 years allowing relief packages to be can be pre-assembled in advance and stored safely

  • Water purification tablets can be included in the relief package as can dried food sachets

Grains and legumes constitute the cornerstone of any survival diet as they provide sustainable energy and are packed with essential nutrients which can be stored for long periods. Combined with the long shelf life of our fuel it allows for relief packages to be pre-built and stored ready for immediate shipment.

Being able to deliver a hot nourishing meal in a time of crisis is so much more than a plate of food, it's hope, it’s dignity, and it's a sign that someone cares.
